Thinking of celebrating the Royal Wedding, Olympic Games or any other event with a Street Party?

Somerset County Council together with the District and Borough Councils encourages residents of Somerset to hold street parties to celebrate the Royal Wedding, 2012 Olympics or any other event.  They would also like to remind you that they are here to help and guide you in the safe planning and organisation of your event.

To ensure that your ideas have every chance to happen the way you want them to, please make sure that you notify the authorities of any activity planned to take place on the roads or streets around Somerset.

Any street or road based events may be subject to a temporary event license, road closure order, or come under the Town & Police Clauses Act 1847. Most of these require an application to be made at least 12 weeks before your event.

They can also give you guidance as to who needs to be informed about a small street party that may have very little impact on the road network.

To find out more please see the following document Events Affecting the Highway – guidance for organisers
