Read the Accessibility section for further information.
As an event organiser you should ensure that your event is accessible by everyone, as people have many and wide ranging needs. It's rare that there will be a 'one size fits all' solution.
Disabled people, families with children, elderly people etc will have very different needs. It is therefore recommended that you ask people that are going to take part in, or that you want to take part in your event "What do you need or what needs to happen, so that you can take part and feel that you are able and welcome to take part?"
Involving people as early as possible will communicate a very strong message that their needs and wishes are being included and just doing this will make a huge difference.
Independent Street Arts Network (ISAN) Access Toolkit
The Independent Street Arts Network (ISAN) have produced an Access Toolkit, which is packed with useful information, and examples of ways you can improve access for deaf and disabled audiences at your event. All areas are covered, from marketing to facilities, from stewarding to programming and much more.
Many of the measures you can take don't cost anything and the advice in the toolkit will help you encourage attendance and improve access for the audience members you might not even know you were excluding.
